Tailoring the Redox Reactions for High?Capacity Cycling of Cation?Disordered Rocksalt Cathodes

Cation-disordered rocksalts (DRXs) have emerged as a new class of high-capacity Li-ion cathode materials. One unique advantage the DRX chemistry is structural flexibility that substantially lessens elemental constraints in crystal lattice, such Li content, choice transition metal redox center paired with appropriate d0 metal, and incorporation F anion, which allows optimization key reactions. Herein, series oxyfluorides based on Mn been designed synthesized. By tailoring stoichiometry compositions, cycling by promoting cationic Mn2+/Mn4+ reactions while suppressing those from anionic O successfully demonstrated. A highly fluorinated compound, Li1.2Mn0.625Nb0.175O1.325F0.675 (M0.625F0.675), delivers capacity ?170 mAh g?1 at C/3 for 100 cycles. This work showcases concept balancing cathodes improved electrochemical performance through rational composition design.
